THE SAINT GEORGE FAIR IN FERRARA

San Giorgio is not only the patron saint of the city of Ferrara, but he is also an important symbol that carries with him a message of hope towards change, and who represents the struggle between good and evil.

The legend that has him as the hero slaying the dragon to save the princess, is famous throughout the world, and his figure as a legendary warrior and bearer of justice is widely celebrated in Ferrara during the month of April.

St. George's Day is April 23rd, and in fact the official celebrations begin on that same day, and end on April 25. But although those are the official dates, the celebrations really start from the first days of the month, with the opening of the sensational Luna Park of Ferrara in the Bagni Ducali area.

The "Giostre di San Giorgio", the name by which the citizens call the Luna Park, are an attraction for both adults and children. The numerous rides and stalls catapult you into a magical world where the only rule is fun. From the roller coaster, to the Ferris wheel, to the apple caterpillar, to prize fishing, to target shooting, the choice is vast, and entertainment is guaranteed, and so adults and children inaugurate spring in the name of this world of magic and celebrate the patron saint of the city.

During the days of the fair from 21 to 25 April, the city is also full of initiatives in the Contrada di San Giorgio in Via Ferrariola, next to the Basilica of San Giorgio Fuori le Mura, complete with a food stand, activities for children and flag tournaments on the last day.
