The name ''Vulandra'' derives from the Ferrara dialect which means KITE. In fact, the International Kite Festival was born as a hobby by a small group of Ferrara residents in 1980, who had a common passion; KITE FLYING. The first demonstrations were held on the Po embankment and attracted only local citizens, but over the years the event reached greater importance and in 1988 they moved to the G. Bassani Urban Park, where it still takes place in the month of April. , attracting many more citizens from the various provinces of Ferrara. THE EVOLUTION OVER THE YEARS Thanks to the participation of the Vulandra Kite Flying Group in various national and international events, it was an opportunity for them to make themselves known, and they distinguished themselves thanks to their imagination in the creation of kites and their performances, for this very reason it has today become one of the most important kite groups in Europe which hosts hundreds of people from all over Italy, Europe and beyond: it has also become famous worldwide; in fact it hosts numerous American, Japanese, Australian and Brazilian enthusiasts. LEARNING TO VOLARTE All the kites are designed and built by members of the Ferrara club in relation to the world of art: this project is called Volarte. In 1993, a collection of painted kites entitled ''LEARNING TO FLY'' was presented at the Festival, consisting of 10 large kites painted by established Ferrara artists and art school students. On the occasion of the 34th Vulandra International Kite Festival, the idea of ''flying sculptures'' was also launched: the result of which are structures that are unusual in shape, light in architecture and far from the kite model.
